Out For A Skate

I had just walked back from getting my brother some food, and sitting next to us was a woman putting on a pair of figure skates.

Introducing myself, I found out that her name was Diana, and that she was actually a figure skating coach getting ready to give a lesson.

Diana had been doing this for five years in her spare time, but she’d done the sport as a kid from the ages of five to nine.

Though she’d stopped for a while, she picked figure skating back up in high school when her little brother had a skate night.

Diana also told me that her parents were Ukrainian and that she was raised in DC.

She had graduated from the University of Maryland, and was currently at Pepperdine in California, studying clinical psychology.

Meet Diana

What brings her joy?

Not surprisingly, Diana told me that a huge source of joy for her was figure skating, just as she was doing that day.

She explained how it has always allowed her to clear her head of any stress and worries.

Of course, many people enjoy figure skating simply for the fun of it, but Diana told me that she especially loved the artistry of it.

All of the complex jumps, spins, and glides come together to make a spectacular art form, which I found really interesting.

It is an excellent form of expression, and Diana loved it for that reason, and it is certainly a great source of joy.
