Take A Breather

Though I didn’t really expect to see them there, the skaters doing tricks along the Potomac River in Georgetown were very impressive.

I found it amazing how they could get over a foot off the ground onto different platforms, and the man next to me seemed to be thinking the same thing.

“Those guys are seriously good”, I said, introducing myself.

His name was Jack, and he told me that he completely agreed.

Jack was a 2019 graduate from JMU, and at the time, he was working at a DC law firm called Kelly Drye.

He was from Maryland, and he’d made great friends in college with whom he was still in touch.

Meet Jack

What brings him joy?

That afternoon, he was just doing what brought him joy: spending some time outside to get some fresh air.

Jack said that he’d grown up playing lacrosse, which he’d loved, and that he liked to fish in Alexandria on occasion.

He also loved spending time with his friends and family, saying that they always brought him back down to earth when things were stressful.

“Work doesn’t define you”, he said, and he seemed to find more joy in these simpler things like the outdoors and family.

Even during a work day like that one, taking time to go hang out outdoors was something to smile about, which was awesome.
