Quality Time
I knew I needed to get some fresh air, and Tenleytown seemed like the best place to do that.
As I was crossing the street toward the library, I took a minute to introduce myself to the woman I saw sitting outside.
She introduced herself as Flora, which I thought was a pretty cool name!
Flora explained that she’d just stopped at Panera Bread and was waiting on a friend.
They were headed for a hike, and since it was the perfect day for it, I was a bit jealous.
Originally from China, Flora moved to the US to attend university, and she has lived here ever since.
She now works for a local IT company, which she often gets to do from home, and she has a number of hobbies!
One of her favorites is gardening, since she is able to grow tomatoes and all sorts of other plants right in her backyard.
Her parents live nearby as well, so she still sees them regularly, but her kids are all grown up.
What brings her joy?
Although her kids are older now, Flora said that they and the rest of her family are her biggest source of joy.
Looking back on the years, she explained that she has loved seeing her kids grow up and change.
I mentioned the quote “The days are long but the years are short”, and she completely agreed.
It’s the little moments, she said, that matter the most, but we take those for granted too often.
I’m planning on heading off to college next fall, so this was a perfect reminder to take advantage of the time I have left with my family!
