Some Good Tunes

Since school started back up, I hadn’t yet been down to Union Station for an after-school snack, so I thought I’d stop by.

As I was indecisively checking out my options, I saw a man sitting with his lunch, and I introduced myself to him.

His name was Riley, and he’d just gotten back from interning on the Hill that day.

Interestingly, Riley told me he’s from Colorado, and he’s only been in DC for three weeks.

Though he hasn’t been a Washingtonian for long, he said that he’s made some friends who have helped with his transition into the new city.

For instance, Riley mentioned that he recently went to Merriweather Center for a concert and that it was a great time.

Most of his family still lives in Colorado, but as it seemed by what he told me, he’s doing pretty well here in DC.

Meet Riley

What brings him joy?

The concert at the Merriweather Center was definitely loads of fun, and he said that music brings him a lot of joy!

As Riley sees it, music offers a wide range of human experiences that otherwise wouldn’t be shared with the world.

Many movements or emotions can be expressed through music, and it’s really a powerful thing.

Aside from the philosophical side of it, though, Riley admitted that there’s just nothing better than a good song sometimes.

It’s fun, and a lot of times we just need something fun to take our minds off of work or school; not to mention, it makes running and other forms of exercise a lot more enjoyable.

I had been listening to music on my way to Union Station, and it was a moment of joy for me, and Riley’s response reminded me to be conscious of that joy!
