By The Ocean
After a trip to the supermarket with my mom, I decided for some reason that I felt like walking home.
We weren’t too far from our house, and along the way home I met a woman named Nathalie.
She was born in Greece but had come to DC as a child when her father was offered a job at the Greek Embassy.
Nathalie has lived in DC ever since, and today she was just out for a walk to enjoy the weather.
She explained how although much of her family still lives in the US, her parents moved back to Greece.
Nathalie works as a government contractor, and the interesting thing about her job is that she has a number of cool clients.
For instance, she mentioned how she has worked with clients involved in oceanography, which I had never heard of before.
I asked her what she likes to do in her free time, and aside from work, she said she has the awesome hobby of flying planes!
Though she doesn’t do it often, Nathalie said she loves taking lessons; according to her, I would actually be old enough to do the same, which I took a mental note of for the future.
What brings her joy?
With regard to her source of joy, Nathalie said that the ocean always put a smile on her face.
Having grown up in Greece, the beach was a familiar place to her and her family.
Even later on, she majored in marine biology in college and hence spent a lot of time at the ocean.
Nathalie said that she’s also a big fan of activities on the water, such as sailing (when the wind allows for it).
Being at the ocean is a way for her to relax, turn off the phone, and experience some joy, which I certainly agreed with.
