People Bring People Joy

I always keep a pack of gum in my car, and when I came up empty-handed when reaching for a piece, I had to stop by CVS for a new pack.

Walking out of the store, I took a walk because I had some time, and I saw a man sitting outside of my favorite pizza place, Mama Lucia’s.

I introduced myself, learning that his name was Jeff and that he’d just gone for a walk with his dog, Lucky.

Jeff originally came to DC from Maine to attend American University, where he studied political science and international relations.

Though he works as a consultant, he makes plenty of time for his family and hobbies, such as biking.

Jeff loves being outdoors and enjoying the scenery on his bike, and it is a great way to get some exercise.

“There’s no need to focus on the details of what is around”, he said; rather, Jeff just enjoys the moment.

I enjoy the same activity, and he recommended that I check out the C&O Canal as a good place for bike rides.

Meet Jeff

What brings him joy?

Speaking of enjoying the moments … what was his source of joy?

Jeff explained that his family and friends bring him joy, which was another thing we agreed on.

His son lives in Seattle and currently works at Microsoft, and Jeff mentioned that he was going there to visit his son soon.

They have even planned a bike tour in the San Juan Islands involving day trips around the little towns.

It seems like a perfect combination of what Jeff loves, and I’m guessing that there will be a lot of joy on their trip.
