What’s For Dinner?

After a great workout at Planet Fitness in Silver Spring, I walked outside and was caught off guard by how nice the weather was.

On my left was a man in a bright yellow vest, and I decided to introduce myself to him.

Marley was his name, and he told me he was headed for work as a bus operator in a few minutes.

He said that he has done this for over a year, and working as a bus operator means being out and about for a living, which Marley said he loves.

He was born in New Orleans and had been brought to DC for a variety of reasons, one of the biggest ones being that he felt stuck back at home.

He wasn’t growing up in New Orleans, feeling like he kept living the same year with the same friends over again.

One part of his life in New Orleans that he did hold onto, however, was the world-famous cuisine.

He added that cooking is a big hobby of his today, and many of his meals tie back to his life in New Orleans.

Meet Marley

What brings him joy?

Considering its sentimental value in Marley’s life, food acts as a large source of joy for him in his daily life.

He cooks himself meals relatively often, and many of his favorite dishes are those he knows from New Orleans.

Dishes such as etouffé, gumbo, and Po’ Boy sandwiches all put a smile on his face.

Oftentimes, nostalgia and memories of the past have the ability to bring joy unlike anything else.

By the way Marley described his source of joy, I got the impression that food has that effect on him.
