Human Connection
Considering the freezing weather from the day before, today was an amazing day to be walking around in the park.
Everyone around me seemed to agree, and seeing a smiling woman push a stroller with her dogs, I decided to go spark up a conversation with her.
She introduced herself as Lilly, and when I told her about my blog, she said she loved it on account of having been a journalism major in college.
Lilly was from Massachusetts and had originally come to DC for college at George Washington University.
After law school in Boston, she moved back to DC to get married, where she worked as a lobbyist.
The coolest part about Lilly’s story was that during the pandemic, she started giving fitness lessons on Zoom, where she gained a lot of viewers.
Eventually, Lilly stopped working as a lobbyist and launched her own fitness business called Electric Collective, which she continues to run.
What brings her joy?
Lilly’s business sounded amazing, but the most interesting part of our conversation was talking about her source of joy, which was human connection.
She told me that she is able to do this by instructing fitness, as well as by spending time with her daughter and the people around her.
Even as a student, she only ever liked classes where she was able to connect with the teacher, and she felt the same way about team sports rather than individual ones.
With this emphasis on human connection, Lilly said that she was big on changing the rules and helping people live the best life possible, which sounded awesome.
I seriously appreciated her answer about human connection because it made me realize that my blog has a similar focus, seeing as it tries to connect people with something positive.
