Joy Of Her Son
Walking home from an event at school, I saw that I had a half hour to spare and decided to stop at Union Station for a little while.
As I headed into the station, I saw a woman looking around who seemed nervous about something, so I decided to go talk to her.
Introducing herself as Nyla, she told me that she was actually just looking around for a friend who she was meeting with.
She was from DC and the mother of her 1-year-old son, who she said she loved very much.
Interestingly, Nyla told me that she works with an organization that provides and serves meals, which I found very cool.
She explained that this was a way for her to connect with her community, seeing as it allows her to meet new people regularly.
Even just being able to share little bits about her life with people was something she liked, and I said that I totally agreed.
What brings her joy?
Coming back to Nyla’s mention of her son, she told me that he was, without a doubt, her biggest source of joy.
Simply waking up in the morning and seeing him always brings a smile to her face, she said.
What stuck with me the most about her discussion of her son was just how connected with him she felt.
Nyla said that “as long as he’s good, I’m good”, and I could tell that she meant it.
I told her that my mother has often said that about me and my siblings, and that she must be an amazing mom.
