Music Brings A Smile
Because I go to school near Union Station, I often find myself there getting a bite to eat after school.
Walking around the station that day, I saw a man eating and introduced myself since I had a bit of extra time.
He was Frank, a nice guy born in Michigan who was working in DC at the moment.
He told me his job was in business, but that he hoped in the future to go to law school.
When I asked why he was at Union Station, he told me he was visiting his girlfriend in New York.
With Valentine’s Day and their anniversary coming up, Frank said she was hoping for something homemade.
That was why he had drawn a nice picture of her that he was going to bring her, which I thought was an awesome idea.
What brings him joy?
Interestingly enough, Frank told me that a big source of joy for him was playing the ukulele in his free time.
He said he had always liked music and singing, and since the ukulele was easier to pick up he found it perfect.
A lot of the time, he said, you just have a song stuck in your head that you can’t get out, so he said he sometimes likes to try to figure it out on the ukulele.
I told him that I do the same thing with the guitar and that I’d never met a ukulele player before, so it was really cool to hear about it.
