Her Loving Son

Heading down the street from the grocery store, I saw a woman sitting alone and decided to go talk to her.

The woman was Phyllis, and having seen how nice the weather was that day, she’d decided to live it up outside.

She was born and raised in Iowa, specifically in a little town called Le Mars.

Having married an economist for the Federal Reserve, Phyllis and her husband had moved to DC and settled well.

She worked as a librarian for both a high school and public libraries, which she said she loved throughout her career.

Interestingly enough, Phyllis told me that she had decided on this profession in middle school after participating in a club where students would have to look up various questions in the library.

Meet Phyllis

What brings her joy?

One of the first things Phyllis mentioned to me turned out to be her source of joy, and it was her son.

He routinely stops by her house every Sunday to take care of her, and Phyllis said that she was so grateful that he’d always been so loving and loyal.

Fortunately, he has an apartment not too far from her house, which is why he can make the visit so often.

Even if it was just to help her with her computer, the presence of her son was always something to smile about, and even just talking to me about it seemed to bring her joy.
