Synchronized Swimming
In my neighborhood, one of my favorite places growing up has always been a place called Broad Branch Market.
With some extra time, I decided to stop by there for some ice cream, and I saw a man sitting outside.
His name was Erik, and when I asked him what he was doing there, he said he was just there with his daughter.
They come there pretty often, just like I did growing up, and today’s warm weather made it even better.
Erik was from Minnesota, which is where much of his family lives, but he moved to DC about twenty years ago for work.
He said he liked reading and watching baseball, and he just seemed like a really nice guy.
I mentioned the fact that the Washington Football Team was recently sold, and he was just as excited about it as me.
We both said we hoped for a brighter future for DC’s football team, and that this was a good start.
What brings him joy?
Though a successful football team certainly brings joy, Erik said a big source of joy is his daughter.
Specifically, he said he loves watching her do synchronized swimming, which I was curious to hear about.
Erik said that his daughter has always liked swimming and ballet, but that she always found them too competitive.
Not only that, but Erik joked that swimming up and down a lane can get a bit boring at times.
Therefore, she picked up synchronized swimming after watching the Olympics, and Erik said that she loves it.
Not only does it make her happy, but it also clearly brings Erik joy, which definitely makes it a Win-Win.
