See The World

Sundays are the best time to either hang out at home or go out for a walk, and I chose the latter of those two options today.

Walking by a local movie theater, I saw a man sitting on a bench across from the cinema and thought I’d say hi.

He introduced himself as Julio, and he said that he’d just watched “Asteroid City” at the movies and was reading an article about it.

Julio was born in Spain, and though he has only been here in DC for a week, he used to live here during the pandemic.

He works for the World Bank and helps with aiding developing countries, especially with regard to making mainstream efforts against climate change.

Julio studied international relations in college, which eventually led him to his current role.

For fun, though, he said that he likes to play the tuba!

Though Julio doesn’t get to play often, he used to play all the time in Spain, and he’s currently looking for a band or something similar to get back into it.

Meet Julio

What brings him joy?

Another thing Julio mentioned he enjoys is traveling, and he chose this as his source of joy.

He explained that he loves meeting new people and discovering new cultures, which aligned well with his job; he used to live in Peru for work!

Traveling offers different ways of seeing life, especially in countries out of one’s region or country.

Interestingly, Julio’s goal in life is to see the whole world, and I told him that I have the same bucket-list item.

In fact, he said that he’s planning a trip to see Yellowstone and other national parks, so he’s sure to have some joy in his future.
