Speaking Up

After watching my brother’s football game, I had some time on my hands, so I went to get some lunch in Georgetown.

Walking down by the Potomac River after I’d eaten, I passed a man sitting on a bench with his dog, and I went to say hi.

His name was Robert, and he’d just sat down while taking his dog for a walk.

Robert’s from Atlanta, but university led him to Georgetown a few years ago, and now he works in health management in DC.

Clearly, Robert enjoys spending time outside in his free time, but one thing he especially enjoys is finding new restaurants.

He recently came across a Persian restaurant called Rumi’s Kitchen; his favorite part was that the food was not only delicious, but also full of different colors with various types of rice and meats!

In addition to these hobbies, Robert has written two books, which ties into his source of joy.

Meet Robert

What brings him joy?

Robert explained to me that he gains a lot of joy from writing about healthcare and the issues that need to be addressed, which I thought was pretty interesting to talk about.

There are a number of important problems in healthcare that simply lack the advocacy required to address them, so Robert likes being able to speak up about this.

As he put it, the beginning of the solution is to just speak up and work together, which allows for real change to happen.

He emphasized that it’s not a political issue, but rather a matter of caring for people as human beings, and advocating for that brings Robert joy!
