Joy In Others

Walking down the street with mail in hand, Bill complimented me on my skateboard as I waited to cross the street.

A conversation sparked between us, and he told me about how he was born and raised in DC, which we both had in common.

Bill told me he had been a postman for 36 years and absolutely loved his job in Georgetown.

Not only did he enjoy being able to walk around every day, but he loved seeing all the other people in Georgetown going shopping or just enjoying the weather.

Another cool aspect of Bill’s job, he said, was that he often came across many famous celebrities such as artist Aretha Franklin before she passed.

His insider tip was that if I wanted to get lucky and see a celebrity, the best time would be on the waterfront on the weekends.

Meet Bill

What brings him joy?

Bill explained to me that he really loved being able to see people and his family happy, which was a big reason he chose to be a postman.

Every day, he helps people by bringing them their mail and putting a smile on their faces.

He shared that his joy comes from the joy of others, especially his family, and he is fortunate to see that every day at work.

It was evident from the start of our conversation that Bill was a kind-hearted man, and this source of joy made that even more clear.
