Soak Up The Sunny Weather
Much like many of those around him, I found Adan sitting quietly on a bench on the street.
He had his earbuds in and was listening to music with a pleasant smile stuck on his face.
I introduced myself and asked him where he was from, to which he replied El Salvador.
Much of his family still lived there, Adan said, but he loved the life he’d made in the US.
A server at a local restaurant called “Le Chat Noir”, Adan said that he was just taking some time to relax before his shift at work.
He mentioned to me that he’d spent 10 years living in DC so far, and his favorite thing to had always been simply going outside on bright warm days.
What brings him joy?
That, he said, was his biggest source of joy: enjoying nature in the sunny weather.
Whether it was walking around to visit new stores and shops or stopping to get a coffee outside, Adan was firm in his love for being outdoors.
I told him that I completely agreed and that I often go walk around outdoors to take my mind off of certain worries.
As simple as it may have seemed, the peace that he found in sitting on a bench with sunglasses and some music was all he needed to find joy.
