A Bit Unsure

While riding my bike home, I saw Isaac sitting on some steps in the sun.

I was in no hurry, so I introduced myself and sat down with him.

He explained that his family was from South America, though he did not specify what region.

While he had worked in construction since he was a teen, Isaac told me about his love of soccer, and that he dreamed of playing professionally someday.

Although he had played at a high level at one point, he explained, Isaac had to stop playing in order to take care of his mother who was very sick at the time.

Isaac always cared for her as much as possible, and though he loved soccer, he knew that taking care of her was far more important.

Meet Isaac

What brings him joy?

When I asked him about what brings him joy, he said that he had a tough time finding one specific thing.

He was going through a bit of a rough patch in his life, so he said it was hard to pinpoint one source of joy.

However, he did mention that he loved being able to go get food across the street with friends and that the summer weather was at least something to smile about; these, we realized, could all be sources of joy.

Therefore, Isaac made me realize that even though things don’t always seem extremely positive, we can always try to find joy, even in the smallest of ways.
