Live It Up

I spent the whole day indoors, so I decided to change the pace a little and go play some basketball at a court by my house.

When I quickly got tired out in the sun, I took a walk and met a woman named Alisha.

She was sitting on a bench outside a Starbucks with a book called “Emotional Intelligence 2.0”, which seemed pretty interesting.

When we started talking, she explained that she’d been working at that Starbucks and had just gotten off her shift.

Alisha’s from Maryland, and she’s lived in DC for almost 20 years now.

In her free time, Alisha’s an artist!

She draws, sings, and plays more instruments than I could write down, even the guitar (like me).

The reason she could play this many instruments was because she was often involved in Church growing up, so she had to learn all sorts of things to play.

Meet Alisha

What brings her joy?

Her source of joy was one that I found really cool: simply being alive brings Alisha joy.

Waking up in the morning is not a guarantee, and it makes Alisha happy every time her head pops off her pillow.

We often don’t think about it, but just having another day of life is always something to smile about.

While we were talking, we saw a number of people that were full of life just walking by, and sure enough, they were full of joy too.

Being alive is a blessing people can quickly take for granted, and I’m glad Alisha reminded me of that.
