Peace of Mind
Skating down a sidewalk in Georgetown, I noticed Amber sitting on a bench underneath a tree.
She seemed to have an unsettled expression on her face, so I decided to stop and ask her what was the matter.
She was waiting to hear back about a new job, she said, and was working at Warby Parker at the time.
However, Amber told me that her real passion, which was her part-time job, was being a writer.
More specifically, Amber found that she loved writing poetry.
She mentioned being from DC, which we had in common, and she said she’d been a part-time writer since 2016.
What brings her joy?
When I asked her what brought her joy, her answer seemed in tune with her love of poetry because it was very thought-provoking.
According to Amber, her source of joy was simply having peace of mind.
As Amber put it, without peace of mind there is chaos, which prevents any positive and productive thoughts.
I had always thought of a person’s source of joy as being some external part of his or her life.
However, she reminded me that joy can also be something internal that we make on our own, and I was really happy to get this perspective of hers.
