Friendly Help

Union Station is my favorite place to go after school, not only because there are a million great food spots, but also because I never know who I’ll meet there.

Walking around the main floor of the station, I saw a woman working on her iPad and decided to spark up a conversation with her.

Her name was Nadia, and it turned out that she was working on designs for her friend’s wedding.

She explained that she’s an interior designer, so she’d offered to help out her friend.

I thought that was really cool, but what was even cooler was that she was from Morocco!

I threw into the conversation that I speak French, and since she did too, we jumped in between French and English for the rest of the interview.

Nadia had gone to college in Richmond and had recently graduated, so now she’s just figuring out life a little bit.

However, outside of work as an interior designer, she likes to draw and play the guitar.

We have the same guitar strategy of just learning off of YouTube, which we agreed makes for a good teacher most of the time.

Meet Nadia

What brings her joy?

As for her source of joy, Nadia said that what she was doing at that moment brought her joy – using her skills to help people.

She said she likes to make invitations or even custom birthday cards, especially for her friends.

It’s the reaction on their faces, the expression of gratitude, that brings Nadia joy.

Of course, it takes her time to make these designs, but it’s well worth the effort when she gets to see how much people love her work.

Sometimes people even frame the things she makes, which brings her even more joy.

Even if her work doesn’t get framed, though, Nadia simply appreciates being able to help others; I think that’s pretty awesome.
