Friendly Joy

Since school doesn’t start for a few days, I decided to get some lunch at a little pizza place in Bethesda.

Walking back to my car after lunch, I saw a man sitting at an outside table, so I thought I’d go talk to him.

His name was Len, and he’d just sat down after a walk around his neighborhood.

He told me he was born and raised in DC, and that he pursued a profession in tech consulting before retirement.

Ten years ago, Len started pursuing photography as a fairly serious hobby, and now he has even entered his photos into professional shows!

He appreciates that it allows him to capture the beautiful things he sees around him in tangible photos.

He has an upcoming show on Capital Hill that he’s especially excited about, and the cool part about this passion of his is that it allows for tons of travel.

For instance, his most recent piece was an image of the Seattle Central Library, which he said he’s quite proud of.

Meet Len

What brings him joy?

When I asked about his source of joy, he gave an answer that I was glad to hear and not too surprised by, which was spending time with friends.

A bunch of his friends got together for New Year’s Eve this year, and he said that it always puts a smile on his face to see them.

As Len put it, it’s often people that you have known for decades, and you can just be yourself around them.

In addition to the memories shared, it is just the simple interaction together that brings Len joy, and I couldn’t agree more.
